competative reservatioin in jobes and higher education needs to be rationalised, why ?

Reservation in jobs and higher education

Reservation :

is the policy to correct the historical injustice done to certain castes, by reserving the seats for them in educational and employment institutions.

objective :

the reservation policy is aimed at bringing the most disadvantaged people into the mainstream of Indian society by providing socio-economic opportunities.

  • but over a while, some irregularities emerged in the reservation policy, mainly due to excessive political interference, to manipulate the public.
  • This is why reservation policy needs to be rationalized.
  • The current status of reservation policy in India is, that the government granted 59% reservations to certain caste and classes.
  • classification of reservation policy - 27% for OBC, ST-7.5%, SC- 15%, EWS- 10%.
  • so it is clear now, that the limit which was earmarked by the supreme court in the Indira Sawhney case is breached, in this case, SC had ordered that reservation should not exceed 50%.

indeed India needs the rationalize of it reservation policy because.

  1.  over a course of time, it has been witnessed that the dominating class is taking the advantage of reservation policy rather than the disadvantaged class.
  2. 59% of reservations have become the subject of exclusion rather than inclusion of disadvantaged class.
  3. it is inefficient as the backward class failed to take advantage of reservation policy, it is apparent in institution which still has a vacancy for sc & st.
  4. the criteria set up by the government also act as an implementation to take the advantage of reservation policy for SC & ST.

What Next :

the irregularities in reservation policies are evident and there is a need for the proper address of these irregularities, the rationalization of reservation policy will definitely improve the scenario of Indian reservation policy.
